What is Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese energetic healing art. Reiki uses touch and intention to clear and align the body's chakras. The belief is that working with the body's chakras allows the body's energy to move unrestricted, creating harmony. If the chakras are blocked they can cause problems in both body and mind.
Why I practice Animal Reiki
The energies that our body works with can be perceived once you have been attuned to them. We as humans tend to over-analyze and criticize things we can't directly see or feel, but animals don't have these inhibitions and can feel energies much more freely than we can. Energy work on animals is very powerful and can help ease their pain and anxiety, even when we don't know the underlying problem. Many equine programs that work with disabled people include some kind of touch therapy which is beneficial to both human and horse.
I learned Reiki to be able to incorporate it into my daily work when I have pets who have nervous or anxious tendencies with grooming, or who may have pain or discomfort in general. I decided to continue in the program when I began experiencing major changes in our own rescue dog, Ella. She needed a lot of emotional support, and by simply doing a meditative reiki session with her on a daily basis, she has become a whole new dog. Seeing her transformation made me want to help other animals in the same way.
